Thursday 11 March 2021 - Creative consultants and showcase producer Daju teamed up with British Underground to bring the many sounds of West Africa and its diaspora to SXSW Online as the Austin, TX based music festival goes digital. Guided by BBC broadcaster Remi Burgz, the AfroFuture Sounds showcase will explore the evolution of afrobeat and its many sub-genres through unique showcase performances highlighting each artist’s contribution to the musical diversity of the ever evolving sounds of Afro music.
With the launch of the Official UK Afrobeats Charts last year and the recent success of artists from West Africa such as WizKid, Tiwa Savage and Burna Boy, now is the perfect time to highlight and celebrate the various genres, the background and its huge impact on the UK music industry and the rise of UK based talent including: Darkoo, Tomi Agape, Br3nya, Loshh and international stars Wavy The Creator and Bongeziwe Mabandla. With SXSW Online offering a global platform to present new talent to an international industry audience, AfroFuture Sounds brings together incredible emerging artists at SXSW for the very first time.
